Skin Care Tips for Difficult Skin
Moisturize at least once daily
Replacing oils in your skin on a regular basis is the single most useful way to prevent and relieve outbreaks of chronic dermatitis. It will make you feel better and be happier. Your skin is the largest organ on your body. If it hurts, itches, or is irritated, you will be miserable! Always moisturize after bathing when your skin is warm and moist. This will increase absorption of your moisturizer.
Avoid products with fragrances, colorants, inorganic chemicals, and preservatives whenever possible.
These include skin care, cleaning products, and laundry products.
Drink lots of water!!!
Unless your physician recommends otherwise, drinking 2 liters of water daily (approximately 8 glasses) will make you feel remarkably better no matter what ails you. Dehydration can make you feel tired and drained. Drinking pure fresh water can reverse that feeling, help your body rid itself of toxins, and plump up your skin.
Take showers instead of baths
Remember those wrinkly, pruning fingers that you used to get as a kid after soaking in the tub. Taking showers will limit your exposure to water that can actually cause your skin to dehydrate. To keep moisture in your skin, you need to replenish the oils that act as a protective barrier. Always moisturize your skin after bathing.
Take your vitamins
Vitamins, especially those rich in zinc, will help your skin be healthier and allow it to resist infections.
Exercise
Exercise increases circulation and relieves stress. Most chronic skin problems have an emotional component that involves stress. By exercising on a regular basis, you can be in better shape and have healthier skin.
Treat outbreaks immediately
The longer you wait to treat an outbreak, the more you scratch and the chance of secondary infection increases. This is especially important if you are diabetic or have circulatory problems that decrease your ability to heal naturally.
Don't wear restrictive or tight clothing
Tight and restrictive clothing may trap sweat and increase the itching and rash associated with chronic dermatitis. It also acts as an irritant on its own. Wearing loosely fitting natural fabrics allows your skin to breathe and reduces chances of breakout and infection due to scratching.
